Does my project require a building permit?

Permits are required for all new construction, remodeling and additions, decks, porches, pools, roofing, windows and siding work. Certain repairs and smaller work may not require a permit. Please contact our Building Official at andy@rumrivercc.com or (763) 331-7722 7:00 am - 5:00 pm for questions related to required permits.

How long will it take to process my permit application?

Permits for residential plumbing and HVAC, roofing, siding, windows and above ground swimming pools are issued at time of application and upon receipt of the permit fee. The review period for remodeling, additions, accessory buildings, decks, fences over 7-feet high, and in-ground pools is typically one week from receipt of a completed application. New residential construction permits typically take two weeks to process, once all information has been received. Review times for commercial building applications will vary based on size and complexity of the project.

How is the cost of the permit determined?

The permit fee for residential plumbing and HVAC, roofing, siding, and windows is a flat fee of $100. Fees for new residential or commercial construction, remodeling, additions, accessory buildings and decks are value-based as set forth in the 1997 Uniform Building Code Table 1-A and will also include a separate value-based plan review fee. An escrow of $1,000 will be required for review of all commercial projects. A full list of fees can be found in the City of Oak Grove Fee Schedule here.

How can I check on the status of my permit?

Inquiries on the status of your permit should be sent to permits@rumrivercc.com.

Who should I call to schedule an inspection?

Permits requiring review will receive notice of the building inspector assigned to their project. For permits that do not require review, please call 763-331-7722 or email inspections@rumrivercc.com to schedule your inspection.
